PROMINENT MULAKANADU MEN OF YESTER YEARS - II


23.Sankara Sadasivam, Sarvagyam: P.M.G. Madras Presidency. Associated with the Theasophical Society.

24.Sitaraman.V: Leading lawyer based at Kollam. Well known in Kerala.

25.Sivasubramaniam, Alathur: The senior of the famous "Alathur Brothers" who were among the foremost vocal vidwans of Carnatic music in their time. His matchless gnana, lively swara-singing and resonant rendering of Kirtanas won him a wide circle of rasikas.

26.Somayajiyar, Ahobila: Director of Fisheries. Deep knowledge in Astrology and Ayurveda.

27.Somayajulu.A.A: Story, dialogue, script writer and film director both in Tamil and Telugu in early days of film industry in south India. Was Assistant Editor of "Swadesamitran", Tamil daily. Has authored many short stories and essays.

28.Somayajulu.S.N: Freedom fighter, Member of Madras Legislative Assembly. Was popularly known in Congress circles as "Neelan Silai Thyagi" and also as "Kodai Idi Somayaji". Has authored a book on freedom struggle in South.

29.Subbanarasiah.P: A leading Civil Engineering Contractor. Was closely associated with Mulakanadu Sabha.

30.Subba Rao.R: A leading business magnate of Coimbatore who commanded the agency for the roducts of all the leading textile mills, the 'Rama Navami' celebrations conducted by him was a major religious and cultural event. Was a devotee of the Acharyas of Sringeri Mutt who conferred on him the title of 'Gurubhaktha Sikamani'.

31.Madurai Subramania Iyer: A descedant of Saint Thyagaraja who was a leading violin vidwan in his time. He served as Professor of Violin in Annamalai University and in the University of Madras. Was famous for his deep knowledge of Camatic music, his wide repertoire and perfect renderings.

32.Rao Bahadur S.K. Subramaniam: A Past President of the Mulakanadu Sabha whose life sketch is published elsewhere in this volume.

33.Cheranmahadevi Veena Subramania Sastrigal: Exponent of veena and well-known throughout India. Receipient of President's award.

34.Sundaram.S: A Past President of the Mulakanadu Sabha whose brief life sketch is published elsewhere in this volume.

35.Sundaram.T.S: A Past President of the Mulakanadu Sabha whose brief life sketch is published elsewhere in this volume.

36.Varadharajam Pantulu: Much attached to Telugu language. Settled in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu and founded the Dakshina Andhra Sabha. He propogated Telugu language through Tamil letters. His name was mentioned in the last International Telugu Conference held in Hyderabad.

37.Venkatakrishnan.M (Kittu): Freedom fighter, Prominent, long-standing labour leader. Was instrumental in floating the ship "V.O. Chidambaram" after Independence launched by Rajaji.

38.Venkatanarasimhan.C.K: A leading lawyer of Madras High Court. Was Secretary of the Music Academy, Madras, for many decades, and was instrumental in building it up as an institution of international repute.

39.Venkatapathy.C.K: Hocky player who played for Tamil Nadu. Closely associated with Dyan Chand, the hocky wizard. Later became an international hockey referee and coach.

40.Rao Bahadur M.Venkataramaiah: A Past President of the Mulakanadu Sabha whose life sketch is published elsewhere in this volume.

41.Papa Venkataramiah: A great violin vidwan of his time who was famous for his unique style of elaboration of ragas. Was an Asthana Vidwan of Travancore State.

42.Venkatasubramanian.N: Served Indian Railways in various important positions and retired as Additional General Manager of North East Frontier Railway. Was a masterly chess player and served as Vice-President of Indian Chess Federation

43.Vishnu Somayajulu.P: Was involved in research in Mycology in Agricultural College. An ardent devotee of Saint Thyagaraja and had in-depth knowledge of all the kritis. Conducted Radha Kalyanam functions and Divya Nama Sankirtanams all over Tamil Nadu.

44.Visvanadhan.S.L: A railway engineer of great repute who executed a number of railway projects in the decade following Independence, including the strategic railway link to Assam after Partition. He retired as Member of the Railway Board, and later served as Managing Director of National Newsprint Mills, Nepanagar.

44.G.Venkatararman, 1913-2005: He had taken M.Sc. degree in scinence by research. After a stint in ceylon he joined Vivekananda College Madras as professor in Botany and continued till retirement. He was Principal of the college for over 10 years, A soft spoken and affable person who served the cause of education.

45.G. Balachandran, 1915-2006 : He as B.Sc. (Hons.) and suagr technologist. He had served serveral Sugar Manufacturing units and was a specilist in manufacturing white sugar. He retired as GM of Gangavathy Sugars. After retirement made deep studies on Pranayama.

46.V.R.Ekambara, (Papiah): First son of the scholr par exellence late V.N. Ramaswamy and Lakshi. He exelled in his studies and by profession an Engineer.

47.V.R. Thyagarajan: Son of late V.N. Ramaswamy and Lakshi, He was employed in Bank. He used to give helping hand to any one in distress. He was P.R.O. for the family a pleasent campanian and conversationist.

48.V.N. Chandrasekaran: Brother of V.N. Ramaswamy and V.N. Aranganathan was chief Engineer in Food Corporation of India. An ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, toured and explored all most all the Sivasthalams all over Tamilnadu.
